ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS

Before filling out an Adoption Inquiry, please click here for our adoption requirements.

Adoption applications are located on each individual animal page under View Our Pets. Once you complete an application online, one of our friendly, knowledgeable adoption coordinators will contact you.

At this time our shelter is under construction and open to the public by appointment only.  In-person adoptions are taking place at the Anna Pet Rescue Thrift & Treasure Shop, 17 Poxabogue Lane in Sagaponack, Thursdays through Fridays from 10 AM until 3 PM. If you have an appointment set to find the perfect companion for a dog already in your home, you must bring your dog with you so that we may do a “meet and greet” with the new prospective playmate.

If you have specific questions about any available animal, please contact us at [email protected]

PLEASE, THINK BEFORE YOU ADOPT

Adopting an animal should never be an impulse decision. It’s a life-long commitment, sometimes lasting 10-15 years for dogs and up to 20 years for cats. There is a lot more that goes into being a responsible pet owner besides adequate food, water and shelter.

Answering the simple questions below will help you decide if adopting an animal is appropriate for you at this time.

At Anna Pet Rescue we work very hard to provide outstanding care for our resident cats and dogs and want the best for them and their adopters.

  • Why do you and/or your family want to get a pet?
  • Who in your family is going to take care of the pet?
  • If you are considering a puppy, do you have the time needed for training?
  • Are you prepared for the costs associated with pet ownership?
  • If you rent, does your building allow animals? Are there any restrictions?
  • Does anyone in the family have allergies?
  • Have you and your family been educated about pet care?
  • Will your pet fit in with you and your family’s lifestyle?
  • Is your living situation going to change in the near future?

PET SURRENDER FEE

Animals are admitted to Anna Pet Rescue by appointment only. We are a private, not-for-profit organization and receive no government funding. Because of this, we require a surrender fee. This fee will help us cover the costs of caring for your pet until a new home can be found. Anna Pet Rescue prides itself on providing the best possible care for your animal including high quality food, veterinary care, a warm place to sleep and plenty of exercise and training. Any donation in addition to the surrender fee is most gratefully appreciated.

IF YOU WANT A PUPPY, PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT PUPPY MILLS

If you purchased a puppy online or at a pet shop, it likely came from a puppy mill. Puppy mills are massive breeding facilities that produce purebred puppies in large numbers. The documented problems of puppy mills include over-breeding, inbreeding, minimal veterinary care, overcrowded cages, lack of food and the killing of unwanted animals. Many people do not realize that by purchasing a puppy online or at a pet shop, they are helping to keep puppy mills in business. Anna Pet Rescue urges the public to go to a shelter or to a reputable breeder when looking for a puppy or any other pet.
